Reinventing oneself successfully is the mark of every talented actor and the iconic actor Deepak Tijori seems to have cracked the code, both in terms of his comeback and his looks. The heartthrob of the 90s played several roles, especially the memorable role in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Aashiqui, but now Deepak Tijori is all set to make a comeback and break from his earlier typecast roles with his latest film Ittar. And the audience is getting treated to his handsome salt and pepper look further in the film Tippsy.

Deepak Tijori has revealed the journey till the movie Ittar. He earned immense popularity with his acting chops in the 90s and in the 2000s and 2010s, he became more particular about the acting roles he chose while his career morphed into that of a director. Talking further about the reason behind his selectiveness, Deepak explained how earlier he was bracketed into playing a hero’s friend, sidekick, supporting character etc.

However, the rise of OTT platforms has proved to be a rising tide lifting all talented actors. He feels that although he tried immensely, cinema in earlier days was not accepting of his efforts to reinvent himself and explore his range. However, as he puts it, “With the advent of OTT, I saw things changing. Now, even Gajraj Rao, Manoj Bajpayee and Pankaj Tripathi are heroes.” Echoing the popular dialogue, he says, “actors ke liye accha time aa raha hai”.

Speaking further on how he landed the role in Ittar, Deepak reveals that he bumped into director Veena Bakshi, who had just made a National Award-winning film, The Coffin Maker with Naseeruddin Shah. Interestingly, Veena is his junior from school while her sister is his batchmate. Thus, they always knew each other and when Veena saw Deepak Tijori’s new look, she immediately offered him her film. Given how OTT gave better platforms to actors, Deepak was keen to venture into this space. He is especially sold on the script and on his supportive producers Tanuj Bhramar and Karan Singh, whose films have made into reputed film festivals.

Talking about his new look Deepak continues how he was initially apprehensive about the public’s reaction to his salt and pepper look. Moreover, he wanted to consciously break away from the image of Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and reinvent himself as Keshav, his character in Ittar. While most of the actors sit on the monitor and observe their performance, Deepak preferred to become Keshav and saw himself only during the final cut. He describes watching himself on the final cut as a ‘rebirth’. In another happy news for fans of Deepak Tijori, his new look has started garnering him offers from semi-commercial and middle-of-the-road cinemas. His fans and our audience can now look forward to the release of both his movies Ittar and TipppsyThe work has been completed and the release will be announced soon. Ittar is a nice, happy, family film whereas Tipppsy has a youthful, peppy feel.
