Record-Breaking Buzz: Rajinikanth's 'Jailer' Sets Ticket Sales Record Ahead of Global Premiere

Superstar Rajinikanth is all set to make a triumphant return to the silver screen with his upcoming action-packed film "Jailer." With the movie scheduled for release on August 10, anticipation is soaring to new heights, leading to some offices in southern India announcing a holiday on its release day.

The announcement, coupled with the buzz surrounding the film, underscores the magnetic pull of Rajinikanth's star power. One Twitter user exclaimed, "Offices started announcing holiday for #Jailer release. The #SuperstarRajinikanth phenomenon and the only actor in the world who can bring the country to a standstill."

Helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, "Jailer" presents Rajinikanth in the role of a retired police officer, marking their first collaboration. 

Ahead of its release, "Jailer" is already breaking records. The film has recorded over 612,000 ticket sales on BookMyShow, including 85.53 thousand tickets on Saturday, 233.15 thousand on Sunday, and 293.33 thousand on Monday. Notably, the movie has also made waves in the international market, particularly in the US, where it has become director Nelson Dilipkumar’s highest-grossing premiere, with advance sales reaching around $664,000 as of Monday.

Story: 

The film centers around Muthuvel Pandian, a determined yet compassionate jailer who discovers a gang's plot to rescue their leader from prison. Rajinikanth leads an ensemble cast that includes Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, and Tamannah Bhatia in pivotal roles.

As "Jailer" gears up for its global theatrical release on August 10, it faces competition from other eagerly awaited films like Sunny Deol's "Gadar 2," Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi-starrer "OMG 2," and Chiranjeevi's "Bholaa Shankar."
