In a glittering ceremony at New Orleans, Miss USA R'Bonney Gabriel was crowned Miss Universe 2022 on Sunday by the outgoing Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu. Ms. Sandhu who won the Miss Universe crown in 2021, is the third Indian to win the renowned title following Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta, who won the title home in 1994 and 2000, respectively. Harnaaz took her farewell walk as "Miss Universe" at the finale event after a year. While strutting down the catwalk in style, Harnaaz paid a wonderful tribute to the former Miss Universes Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta.
With her all-black floor-length gown that featured images of two former Miss Universes from India, Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta, Harnaaz, the outgoing Miss Universe 2021, captured hearts. The images depict their distinct winning moments. A brief video was posted on the Miss Universe organization's official Instagram page with the caption, "Moments before Harnaaz Sandhu takes her final walk as Miss Universe."
Before crowning R'Bonney Gabriel of the United States as the next Miss Universe, she was unable to contain her tears as she walked the ramp. The pageant contestants applauded as the beauty entered the arena wearing a stunning black gown. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she waved to the spectators and made the Namaste greeting. She also appeared to stumble in between, but she quickly regained her equilibrium.
Reacting to Ms Sandhu’s special tribute, Lara Dutta wished her best of luck for her journey ahead and wrote on her Instagram story, “Wishing Harnaaz Sandhu the brightest road ahead!! Am sure she’s going to blaze her own individual, glorious path.”
