For the mega-budget action spy series Citadel’s Indian installment, the Russo Brothers have found their star. The Russos announced on Tuesday that Bollywood superstar Varun Dhawan will star in the Indian series produced by AGBO for Amazon Prime Video.
The still-untitled Indian project is set in the Russo brothers’ “Citadel universe,” an expansive series franchise that encompasses productions in numerous nations and culminates in a narrative that is interconnected. According to reports, the franchise’s main American component is already one of the most expensive TV shows ever produced. The famed creative duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK (Raj and DK) will direct the Bollywood series, which will begin production in 2023. While the screenplay is written by Sita R. Menon along with Raj and DK.
According to Aparna Purohit, head of India originals at Prime Video, “The Indian installment of the distinctive and spectacular Citadel universe is among our most ambitious projects, and working with the Russo Brothers’ AGBO has certainly been a fascinating experience. Having Varun make his streaming debut and serve as the series’ star is a source of immense pride for us.”

With creators like Raj & DK on board, the Indian Citadel chapter has a tremendous storyline, and a spectacle is undoubtedly in the making.”
The Russo brothers, who are well known for directing Marvel blockbusters, collaborated to form AGBO in 2017. The Netflix action movies Extraction and The Gray Man, as well as the popular independent movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, are among the titles produced under the umbrella.
According to Dhawan’s filmography, he has featured in films including Dilwale, Dishoom, Badlapur, October, and, most recently, the smash successful family comedy Jugjugg Jeeyo in 2022. The Citadel project will be his first series for a streamer.
